1. The figures are based on the reports of the Prison Department.
2. According to Law 55(I)/2021 which provides for the establishment of a system of criminal justice that is friendly towards children who are in conflict with the law, child in conflict with the law means a person who has not completed his/her eighteenth (18) year of life, who has committed a criminal offence or is considered suspect of committing a criminal offence. Furthermore, according to the same law, a child under the age of fourteen (14) years is not criminally responsible for any act or omission.
3. Before 2021, the category Juveniles referred to persons 14 years of age or older and less than 16 years of age. Since 2021, the category Juveniles refers to persons 14 years of age or older and less than 18 years of age.
